Kekova Tour
The highlights of our Antalya Üçağız or Kekova tour are the ancient sunken city, Kekova Castle and the Old Age Sarcophagus Chests, Historical Shipyard Ruins.
Kekova, Turkey’s largest and oldest submerged city, and is also home to the historic castle. For the Kekova tour, you can reach the center of Üçağız with the view of greenhouses built on fertile red lands, which takes about half an hour on the Üçağız road, which is separated from Kuşçak location on the Demre-Kaş road to the south.
Kekova Trip
After passing the Gendarmerie Security check at the entrance of Üçağız, the center of Üçağız is reached. Since the number of parking lots and available spaces is insufficient, Üçağız Municipality charges you 15 TL parking fee (2020 price) at the entrance or exit. Apart from that, you do not pay an extra parking lot or entrance fee.
When you come here, it is possible to visit the district center in 1 hour because the area you will visit on foot is not very large. When you follow the road that runs right next to the mosque, pass under the vines and turn the colorful “world stairs” and you will see the pier with yachts and boats. Since we were in Kekova in the evening, we thought we could not take a boat tour when an old man approached us. He showed us his 8-person boat and invited us to the Kekova Boat Tour.
Places to Visit in Kekova
You do not have much opportunity to swim in Kekova. However, during the boat trip we made to the Ancient Underwater City, the family we came with was swimming in the sea, right above the ancient city, while we were sipping our Turkish Coffee, which was carefully cooked in wood fire, as a tour group “bizyineyollarda” during the break we gave on the peninsula where the historical Üçağız Castle is located.
After a break of about half an hour, we returned. The few mountain goats we saw on an islet covered with rocks on our way back did not go unnoticed. We couldn’t decide whether these goats, which you can see in the photo below, are wild or have an owner.
When we got back to the mini pier where we sailed, the weather was getting darker. Kekova becomes a completely different place in the evening when the street lights come on. Taking advantage of the opportunity, we had the opportunity to taste the famous “Yanık (burn) Ice Cream“. Ice cream made from goat’s milk is unique to this region and is not likely to be eaten anywhere else. We recommend you to taste it.
When it was time to leave Kekova, our hours were 22:00. We set off for Kaş. Later in the night, we arrived in Antalya Kaş.
These are what we are going to transfer from Üçağız for now. It is a place that should definitely be in the top 10 in the list of must-see places. But the room rates per night are a bit salty. Let’s not go without saying this criticism. 🙂
