Before You Go to Luxembourg

Before going to Luxembourg, the most curious topic on Google is “Is Luxembourg City or Country?” has been a question. That’s why I wanted to start our article on Luxembourg by answering this question.

Luxembourg is both a country and a city name.

If you ask where is the capital of Luxembourg, which is the smallest country in Europe in terms of area, the name of the capital of Luxembourg is Luxembourg. The official name of the state is the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Where is Luxembourg? How to go?

Located in Central Europe, the State of Luxembourg is one of the rare European countries that has no coastline and is surrounded by Germany, France and Belgium. How to get from Turkey to Luxembourg?

Getting to Luxembourg by Plane

You can reach Luxembourg directly from Turkey by planes belonging to airline companies such as KLM and Lufthansa, especially THY planes.

With Turkish Airlines flight numbered TK 1353, there is only one flight every day from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Luxembourg Airport (LUX). During the holiday seasons, you can buy flight tickets for an average of 1,500₺ – 2,000₺ per person.

It is possible to go to Luxembourg from Izmir or Ankara by making only one transfer in Istanbul. To buy THY’s Izmir – Luxembourg flight ticket, you need to pay between 2.000₺ and 2.500₺ on average. For Ankara – Luxembourg flight tickets, you will need to pay around 2,500₺ with connecting to Istanbul.

Does Luxembourg Require a Visa?

You need a Schengen Visa for your short-term or touristic visits to Luxembourg with a Public (Bordeaux) Passport from Turkey.

Green Passport, Gray Passport and Diplomatic Passport holders can stay up to 90 days without any visa during their touristic visits to Luxembourg. Before going to Luxembourg for tourism purposes with your General Passport, you must apply for a Schengen Visa from the Luxembourg Embassy.

If you have a valid visa from another Schengen member country, you can go to Luxembourg by connecting. You cannot fly directly to Luxembourg with this visa. You will most likely be sent back to your country from the airport.

For example, you have a valid Schengen visa issued by the French or German authorities. In this situation, you must land at any airport of the country that issued you the Schengen Visa, for example, Paris or Cologne Airport. From there you can move to Luxembourg or another Schengen member state.

Here, I would like to mention an important detail about Luxembourg. The Schengen Visa Agreement between the European States was signed in the Remich-Schengen region, which is within the borders of the Luxembourg State, on the Moselle river, which also determines the borders with Germany.

What is the Time Difference Between Luxembourg and Turkey?

Luxembourg local time is 1 hour behind Istanbul as it uses the Central European Time zone. In other words, when the clocks show 14:00 in Istanbul, it is 13:00 in Luxembourg.

How is the weather in Luxembourg?

Before going to Luxembourg, it is useful to check the weekly weather forecast. In general, temperatures in summer are measured as 23-29 degrees celcius during the day and 12-17 degrees celcius at night.

While it is partly cloudy or rainy in short intervals in the morning, the weather is usually clear and sunny in the afternoon. It is a good idea to choose your clothes accordingly when going to Luxembourg. We recommend that you bring a thin raincoat and umbrella with you.

Before you go to Luxembourg, you should definitely take a look at the weekly, 10-days and 15-days weather forecast reports.

When we arrived in Luxembourg city center around 11:00 in the morning, there was light rain. Although we were a little disappointed, the sun showed its face an hour later. Thus, the magnificent medieval gothic architecture of Luxembourg was exhibited.

How Many Days to Visit Luxembourg?

The city of Luxembourg can be visited even in 1 day, as it is the capital of the smallest country in the European continent. So much so that we had the opportunity to travel during the Benelux European Tour.

However, our advice to you is to spare at least 2 days for Luxembourg and make sure to visit the Remich-Schengen Area. In our next article, we will give a wide coverage to the places you should visit in Luxembourg.

Life in Luxembourg

How does it feel to live in Luxembourg, the smallest country in Europe in terms of area? What are the living conditions and working conditions? In this part of our article, let’s give some questions about Luxembourg.

In Luxembourg, the population, and especially the working indigenous population, is very small. As far as we know, there is no heavy industry or a world-class manufacturing industry. For this reason, the quality of life and welfare level in Luxembourg is quite high.

If asked where Luxembourg is today, many of us are in a position to not even find its place on the map. However, it provides a very high quality environment due to the economic and other living conditions it offers.

Luxembourg’s biggest source of income is Banks and Finance Companies. It provides loans to private companies, local governments, municipalities and even public institutions around the world.

Naturally, since they provide their biggest income through money and interest income, their added value is also high at this rate. The result is almost zero tax rates. While providing a high level of welfare to its own population, it provides both the opportunity to work and cheap shopping to neighboring countries.

The low population of the country causes low labor force and accordingly the need for foreign labor force. Mainly the French come here to work by road and rail from France for the day.

Starting a Business and Trading in Luxembourg

How to finally settle in Luxembourg? How to trade? I want to talk about the issues.

If you want to trade, the terms are so flexible. Let’s say you start a simple company. If your annual turnover is €25,000, it means your Luxembourg Residence Permit is ready. Believe me, you can reach this figure in the first 1-2 months.

As long as you are not involved in any legal case and you do not miss your taxes, there is no obstacle for you to do business in Luxembourg for the rest of your life.

We turn every gap we find into a holiday and use all the opportunities we catch to the full. Sometimes we traveled for kilometers on the stony mountain road (Adrasan) with our vehicle, sometimes we walked for hours on narrow paths with children on lap (Gelidonya Lighthouse). We were very tired but we had no regrets.
